Located on green hill, just near by the city of Phonsavanh, hotel designate as elegant of western style with separate unit house, all room facing over the view of the city and paddy field. The Auberge de Plain de Jars (Phouphadeng Hotel) is a charming mountain lodge, set high on the hillside above Phonsavan. The place has a definite 'alpine' feel to it, every room featuring an open fireplace where fires can be set in winter, when it can be quite cold here due to the elevation.

The Phouphadeng Auberge is a delightful little resort on a hilltop in the countryside near Phonsavan, the base for exploring the famous ‘Plain of Jars’.

Fifteen comfortable wooden bungalows are spread through the forest cover of pine and fern trees. Spacious and airy, the bungalows have double or twin beds, en-suite bathrooms with hot showers and open log fires for the colder season. Each has a balcony with chairs and great views across the mountains and town below. Some rooms interconnect and extra beds can be added if required.

The resort has a central restaurant and bar, housed in a separate wooden building. Decoration is an eclectic mix of traditional Lao textiles and old war memorabilia. The bar is well stocked and there is a selection of lounge chairs around a central log fire. The restaurant serves a selection of French and Laotian dishes with true mountain lodge ambience.

The town of Phonsavan is a brief drive from the hotel and inexpensive taxis and tuk-tuks can be hired easily, and if required. The walk into town takes about 15 minutes and is a pleasant stroll.

The resort is a great base to explore Xiengkhouang Province, most famous for its mysterious selection of stone jars and also as a centre for American bombing during the secret war. Bomb craters and casings can be seen extensively here and many former weapons have been converted into useful modern day tools – barbeques, chairs, pots and even garden fences! The area is rich in ancient and modern history and a visit here is an interesting part of a trip to Laos if time permits.

Phouphadeng Auberge is one of the best accommodation options in the area. Charming and homely with a lovely setting and great views.
